G2 Illustration

Yesterday I illustrated an article about women's opportunities in the workplace for today's G2 for the Guardian. It was one of the shortest deadlines I've had to date, but that made it all the more fun & very satisfying!

Rita Hayworth was a huge Hollywood Sex Symbol during the 30's & 40's. She tried to find happiness with 5 different husbands, but her quote 'Men fell in love with Gilda, but they wake up with me' seemed to ring true.

Don't Panic Pack

'Don't Panic' online magazine have a vote to design a pack each month. The next theme is "small" and I have submitted this design. I have a vague dread of growing old and gradually shirinking without realising it, it kind of seems inevitable!

I have been very dissapointed with Britains idea of Summer weather so far.
The days are dreary and dark, so I thought I would brighten up my Summer wardrobe with a few new garments!
This particular design is inspired by always having to carry a brolly in Britain. Whether it's January or July, you never know when a downpour of precipitation is heading your way!

Nerva's Armistice Cake

'Nerva's Armistice day' cake was a recipe featured in the Guardian for Rememberance day.
"On November 11 1918, in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, my grandmother Nerva Overstreet turned three years old. Her oldest brother had been called up to fight in the war, and her mother hadn’t made a cake for Nerva’s birthday. When the armistice was announced, she made this cake from ingredients she had on hand to celebrate. She later wrote the recipe down on a card, which my grandmother still keeps in her recipe box."
